Ready & Waiting...
Ready and Waiting...sounds a lot more laid back and patient than I really am. Just ask anyone who has been around me the last few weeks. For a self proclaimed "control freak" I will say that the experience of motherhood beginning with pregnancy and continuing on through child-rearing is a major lesson in "letting it go." Due to the fact that I have no control over my body (how big my belly looks and how bad my heartburn is) during pregnancy I seem to tilt really hard on controlling the things I do have a say in (sorry Aaron.)
This post introduces you to Logan's new nursery. After months of scouring the internet for ideas on what the theme would be, and then months of waiting to get ordered items in, and months of nagging Aaron to "getter done" the nursery is finally completed...hence...ready and waiting. All we need now is the baby!
I knew I didn't want anything too babyish or too cheesy and of course, my husband had to have a vote so add in one more stipulation. My overall plan was to do something very tailored that Logan could grow into. Whatever the fabric, it had to contain a green that would coordinate with my existing rocker and ottoman (from Lily's nursery.) I finally decided on bedding from a site called http://www.modpeapod.com/ which was recommended by dear friends in North Carolina. The bedding is custom made to order and is actually fairly reasonable (all things considered.) Since I had never actually seen the bedding in person, I had to wait to decide on paint colors until it actually arrived on my doorstep.
I was trying to keep the nursery on a scaled down budget. If we are comparing apples to apples, I went CRAZY when decorating Lily's room and have since realized that the suite of furniture built to go and grow (crib, toddler bed, to full size bed) isn't the best quality and is very pricy.
I again, took a leap of faith and after endless nights of internet searching, I ordered a crib online from http://www.jcpenney.com/ . With the crib and the bedding in possession, it was time to convince my husband that painting the entire room and ceiling, including one whole wall of stripes would be FUN!
After testing out nearly 6 different blue paints we agreed on a light blue for the entire room and ceiling accented with a wall of chocolate brown with darker blue accent stripes. I can't go into the drama created by asking Aaron to paint stripes on a heavily textured wall (paint bleeding through tape). I will say that the room is a perfectionist's dream. It looks amazing. I am so thankful to have such a handy husband who does such amazing work!
Along with the bedding, I ordered about 5 yards of fabric to coordinate with it. Logan's room is quite beautiful, structurally but one major problem is wall space for furniture (or the lack thereof.) I decided to utilize a built-in niche that was existing in the room as a changing table. The heavens must have collided because it was the exact measurements needed to hold a changing pad. Aaron built a padded board covered with the stripped fabric and I purchased a basket caddy to hold diapering items. He used the remaining fabric to build a cornice board valance over the wall of windows. I love the effect of the stripes and it softens the room up perfectly. For additional storage I purchased a small dresser from the container store that I have stored in the closet. I found the wooden circle letters that spell Logan on a site called http://www.polkadotpeacock.com/ and they look like they were made for the room. Now that the paint smell has subsided, all the linens and clothing have been laundered, and everything is in its place, I'm ready to sit in this beautiful room and look at my baby. Ready and waiting...
I will add that I had my 38 week check up today and Logan seems to be content and cozy just where he is. :-)
